If you live where there is a lot of noise, the serenity of your home is being compromised. Whether there are businesses or industries, noisy roadways or neighbors, machinery or any other forms of intruding sound, it can be hard to relax thoroughly. This will take a toll on your health over time. You can reduce the noise pollution by making some physical changes in your property. Here are some tips that should help.
1.    Step 1

Decorate your noise pollution wall.
Creating some sort of heavy screening between the noise source and your home is your first focus. You can build a solid wall with brick, cement, block or other thick, noise-absorbing material. Make it decorative by planting shrubs or vines in front of the wall, hanging wall art or setting up pots on the top that spill dangling plants down the sides.
2.    Step 2
If building a solid wall will not work for you, then try a living wall. Using dense trees filled in with thick shrubbery around the tree trunks can create a sound-absorbing buffer zone of green.
3.    Step 3

Water creates 'white noise'
Another step you can take to reduce noise pollution is to create 'white noise' by covering the unwanted sound with the sound of running water from a water feature or soft music from outdoor speakers. Or just hang some wind chimes to distract you from other noise pollution.
4.    Step 4
Look to the house itself. New windows and doors can make an astonishing difference in sound-proofing a home. They will also make your home more attractive and lower utility bills in both summer and winter by increasing your home's insulation efficiency.
5.    Step 5

Thick plantings block out noise.
If you live with an ambient noise problem there ARE things you can do. Try some of these steps and they should help reduce noise pollution and bring more comfort to your home and more peace to your life.
